Collaborative Composition - Seminars and Workshops

Using examples of our own work and various new visual stimuli, our seminars/workshops involve sharing our composition methods in order to take students away from their comfort zone, encouraging them to:

  • Think outside the box
  • Take a broader approach to composition through such means as improvisation and stimuli from other art forms.
  • Produce more creative and experimental works.
  • Consider the performers – what is important for instrumentalists?

Past Projects

Purcell School for Young Musicians - Saatchi Gallery 2017

Following the success of our 2013 collaboration with the composer of the Purcell School for young musicians, MOC presented works inspired by the Saatchi Gallery Exhibition "Painters' Painters". During a course of workshops, composers created works which were premiered at the Saatchi Gallery in front of their chosen piece of artwork.

Purcell School for Young Musicians - Saatchi Gallery 2013

MOC ran a project for the Composition Department at the Purcell School for young musicians inspired by the Saatchi Gallery exhibition "Gaeity is the Most Outstanding Feature of the Soviet Union". After a series of exploratory workshops the students each produced a work including choregraphed elements, premiered at the Saatchi Gallery by MOC. See bottom of page for our blog about the Saatchi Project.
